Message from Mrs. Loethen

With my background in education, and my desire to do my very best, I am certain that it will be a successful year of learning and fun for each child at St. George in my classroom. Just to tell you a little about myself…I am a born and raised Indiana girl! I attended Indiana State University for my undergraduate degree in education. Upon graduation, I worked as a substitute teacher in elementary and middle school and then worked in a child development center teaching toddlers. A year later, I moved to Kansas City where I accepted my very first elementary teaching position in the Kansas City Missouri School District, and married my husband, Neil. I taught there for four years, as both a second and third grade teacher, at McCoy Elementary. During my time at McCoy Elementary, I returned to graduate school to work on my master’s in administration at The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). After my fourth year of teaching, I accepted a new teaching position in the prestigious Park Hill School District where I taught fourth grade at English Landing Elementary. I also graduated from UMKC with my master’s degree that year. I really loved teaching at English Landing Elementary, but I was only there two years because I had my first daughter, Paige, and decided to be a full-time, stay-at-home mom. Neil and I moved back to Linn, when Paige was nine months old, to be close to Neil’s family and enjoy small town life. In the next few years, God also blessed us with two more daughters, Chloe and Layla, whom I get to spend my days with, too! Being a stay-at-home mom has been the very best job in the world, but I have missed teaching. I am not ready to return to the classroom full time, but my heart has been yearning to teach again. I actually started back, with a very small step, last fall by organizing and teaching Children’s Liturgy at the 10 a.m. mass on Sundays. It has been very enjoyable to teach children about loving God and to be creative again.
