My name is Heather Loethen, and I am super excited to be back for my fifth year at St. George. Although this is my fifth year here, it is actually my twelfth year as an educator overall. I earned my degree in education from Indiana State University and also have a graduate degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City. I have taught at four different locations, so I have teaching experience in many different areas and grade levels.
I began my career by teaching preschool in Indiana. Then, I moved to Kansas City where I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. After having our first child, my husband, Neil, and I moved to Linn, his hometown. We were eager to be close to his family and enjoy small town life. That road led me to St. George, where I have taught 4th grade, art, and PE.
I took a year off from physical education to teach fourth grade last year, and I am excited to be back in the gym. Although teaching fourth grade was fun, I also enjoy having the opportunity to interact with all of the students at St. George every week in PE class. I am looking forward to helping each student work toward achieving good health and fitness goals, that they can carry with them throughout life, all while having some fun in the gym. It’s going to be an awesome year!
